A new species of living glass-scallop, genus Similipecten (Bivalvia, Propeamussiidae), from the Bahama Islands (West Indies) Naturalis
Dijkstra, H.H..
Introduction Redfern described and figured a propeamussiid species (as Cyclopecten sp.) from the Bahama Islands, which he compared with Cyclopecten nanus Verril & Bush in Verrill, 1897,known from the sub-tropical and tropical western Atlantic. In fact, both species are more morphologically related to Similipecten than to Cyclopecten and therefore both are here classified with Similipecten.

Copepoda associated with Echinoidea from the West Indies Naturalis
Stock, Jan H.; Humes, Arthur G..
Stock, J.H. & A.G. Humes. Copepoda associated with Echinoidea from the West Indies. Studies nat. Hist. Caribbean Region 72, Amsterdam, 1995: 25-46. Four species of Copepoda (three Siphonostomatoida, one Poecilostomatoida) are recorded as associates of shallow-water echinoids, from Curaçao, St. Martin, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. The siphonostomatoids Chelacheres longipalpus and C. optans belong to a new genus and species of the family Asterocheridae. Another species of the same family is provisionally attributed to Asterocheres simulans (T. Scott, 1898), previously recorded from Europe only. A fourth species, of the genus Pseudanthessius (family Pseudanthessiidae), belongs to a new species, Ps. exilicornis.

Fossil evidence and probable extinction of the greater fishing bat Noctilio leporinus (Chiroptera: Noctilionidae) on Isla de Mona, Puerto Rico Mastozool. neotrop.
Olson,Storrs L.; Nieves-Rivera,Ángel M..
The greater fishing bat Noctilio leporinus has long been erroneously attributed to Isla de Mona, Puerto Rico, based on specimens from Monos Island, Trinidad. There are no historical specimens from the island but a radius from a late Holocene cave deposit now establishes that the species was once present. Its apparent extinction may be have been caused by human intervention, a factor that should be taken into account in the biogeography of West Indian bats.

Hummelinckiella borinquensis, a new genus and species in the subfamily Stephopominae (Caenogastropoda: Siliquariidae) with notes on the genera Caporbis and Stephopoma and the “Blasian subregion” Naturalis
Faber, M.J.; Moolenbeek, R.G..
A new genus and species, Hummelinckiella borinquensis n.gen. & n.sp. has been discovered in sediments from shallow water off Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk (Turks & Caicos Islands). Because of the striking sculpture of its protoconch, it is placed in a new genus of the subfamily Stephopominae. The only other known western Atlantic member of the Stephopominae is Stephopoma myrakeenae Olsson & McGinty, 1958 recorded from the eastern Caribbean (Leeward Islands), herewith invalidating the “paciphile” status of this species and genus, and casting doubts on the value of the “Blasian Subregion”, indicated by Petuch (1990) as a biogeographical unit.

Hybotinae (Diptera, Empidoidea, Hybotidae) from the Dominican Republic: new records and description of new species Rev. Bras. entomol.
Ale-Rocha,Rosaly; Rafael,José Albertino.
Hybotinae is being recorded for the first time to Dominican Republic where the subfamily becomes represented by the genera Euhybus Coquillett, 1895, Neohybos Ale-Rocha & Carvalho, 2003 and Syneches Walker, 1852. Euhybus and Neohybos occur exclusively in the Americas, and Syneches is cosmopolitan. Six new species are described and illustrated: Euhybus martiniensis sp. nov., Neohybos cinereus sp. nov., N. longicornis sp. nov., N. pruinosus sp. nov., N. setosus sp. nov. and Syneches dominicanus sp. nov.. Identification keys are provided for the species of the three hybotine genera registered in West Indies. The following species are recorded for the first time from the Dominican Republic: Syneches inversus Curran, 1928, S. pallidus Wilder, 1974 and S....

Molecular phylogeny of advanced snakes (Serpentes, Caenophidia) with an emphasis on South American Xenodontines: a revised classification and descriptions of new taxa Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
Zaher,Hussam; Grazziotin,Felipe Gobbi; Cadle,John E.; Murphy,Robert W.; Moura-Leite,Julio Cesar de; Bonatto,Sandro L..
We present a molecular phylogenetic analysis of caenophidian (advanced) snakes using sequences from two mitochondrial genes (12S and 16S rRNA) and one nuclear (c-mos) gene (1681 total base pairs), and with 131 terminal taxa sampled from throughout all major caenophidian lineages but focussing on Neotropical xenodontines. Direct optimization parsimony analysis resulted in a well-resolved phylogenetic tree, which corroborates some clades identified in previous analyses and suggests new hypotheses for the composition and relationships of others. The major salient points of our analysis are: (1) placement of Acrochordus, Xenodermatids, and Pareatids as successive outgroups to all remaining caenophidians (including viperids, elapids, atractaspidids, and all...

Soft-sediment ichnotaxa from the Cenozoic White Limestone Group, Jamaica, West Indies Naturalis
Blissett, D.J.; Pickerill, R.K..
Jamaica, the third largest of the Greater Antillean islands, exposes various lithological units that are dominated by Cenozoic carbonate rocks including those of the mid-Cenozoic White Limestone Group. This Group is comprised of six formations, the Troy, Swanswick, Somerset, Moneague, Montpelier and Pelleu Island formations. An uncommon but moderately diverse, poorly to moderately preserved softsediment ichnofauna is described herein from several of these, namely the Moneague, Montpelier and Pelleu Island formations, which have yielded 15 ichnogenera represented by 27 ichnospecies. These are: Bergaueria hemispherica? Crimes, Legg, Marcos & Arboleya; Chondrites furcatus Sternberg; Chondrites isp.; Circulichnus montanus Vialov; Dactyloidites ottoi...
